Shiekh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani was appointed Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) on 10th May 2026 and Vice-Chairman of QAFCO’s Board of Directors.

Prior to joining QAFCO, Shiekh Khalid was the Chief Engineering and Projects Officer at QatarEnergy LNG from 2011 till 2026. Over the course of his thirty years within the energy sector, Shiekh Khalid has led a number of critical functions including engineering, integrity, and reliability, reservoir and production engineering, and ventures management. He has championed innovation, operational excellence and sustainable engineering practices, combining deep technical expertise with strong track record of delivering complex, high-impact projects.

Shiekh Khalid joined RasGas in 1996 as a Project Engineer and, throughout his career, he has been a driving force behind engineering excellence, sustainable development and organizational performance, seeking to consistently and meaningfully contribute to the industry’s progress in line with the objectives established by QatarEnergy and aligning closely with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

He currently serves as a Director on the Industries Qatar (IQ) Board of Directors, Vice-Chairman and MD of the QAFCO Board of Directors, Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Board member and Arab Fertiliser Association (AFA) Board member.

He has also held various leadership positions in the industry, Chairman of Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Audit Committee and Governance, Risk, and Compliance Committee, and Chairman of the Qatar University Gas Processing Centre Technical Advisory Committee. Shiekh Khalid is committed to fostering the development of future engineering talent. He actively mentors young professionals and supports academic-industry collaborations. He serves on the Qatar University College of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board, Texas A&M University Dean’s Development Council, and the HBKU Industry and Government Advisory Board (IGAB), further emphasizing his dedication to aligning engineering capabilities with industry advancements.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Qatar, and an Executive master’s in business administration from HEC Paris.
